Health Problems and the Border Collie

Like most breeds, the Border Collie does have health problems. The best way to minimise the risk of purchasing a pup (or an older dog) with health problems, is to educate yourself on the problems and ask the breeder of the dogs LOTs of questions.

For information on selecting a breeder, please click here.

The types of problems that have, at times, occurred within the breed are listed below, with links to various information sources.

Always ask the breeder of the dog where health problems have arisen in the line and what they are doing to minimise the possible occurence of the problems.

Hip Dysplasia (HD)

Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD)

Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA)

Trapped Neutrophil Syndrome (TNS)

Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (CL)
